STOP 8
28 Miles
by Jenny Stohlmann
The hum of summer cycles
riders’ wheels melting
into a chorus of katydids
When the sun sets on swamp rabbits
every hop becomes a brushstroke
painting camouflage against tall grass
Hurry home, night riders
with your headlamps shining
on a warm evening’s end
Find your branch, mourning doves
nestle in above your marmot friends
the dark has come on by
to smooth her hand across your tired backs
